A Day at the Farm
A few weeks ago, we had the absolute pleasure of visiting Bart and San’s enchanting alpaca farm nestled in the lush northern countryside of Ibiza. From the moment we arrived, we could feel the love and care these two have poured into creating a haven for these fascinating creatures. It’s more than just a farm; it’s a touching story fueled by San’s passion for weaving and Bart’s heartfelt commitment to nurturing and celebrating these remarkable creatures and their curiosities.
San’s journey began back in Belgium, where she worked as a nurse by day and crafted exquisite garments from soft, luxurious materials by night. When she and Bart encountered their first alpacas, it was love at first sight—and not just because of those adorable faces!

During our visit, Bart was the perfect host, walking us through the farm and introducing us to their adorable herd. We won’t spill the experience by explaining too much, but I can say the kids were beyond thrilled to get up close and personal with the alpacas. Feeding them was an absolute highlight—their gentle nibbles and curious gazes were pure joy. Bart made sure to explain the do’s and don’ts of interacting with these creatures, ensuring that both kids and alpacas had a safe and happy experience. It was super interesting and also touching to see how every single one of these creatures clearly has a different character. And one teenage boy alpaca has a mustache. What makes this farm extra special is how Bart and San have designed it to be a peaceful retreat, not just for visitors but also for the alpacas themselves. They’re cared for with such attention to detail—from their specialized diet to their spacious, tranquil surroundings. We felt like we were stepping into their world, and honestly, we didn’t want to leave!
As we wandered the farm, Bart’s passion shone through as he shared fun alpaca facts with us (and trust me, we’re now nearly alpaca experts!). Did you know alpacas are super picky eaters and they have three stomachs that can digest food for up to 63 hours? Or that their soft hooves don’t degrade the soil and they nibble grasses without uprooting them, making them the ultimate eco-friendly grazers? We also learned that alpacas’ poop is odorless and makes for fantastic fertilizer, and of course, kids absolutely love to giggle about any fact involving poop! Oh, and their wool? It comes in 22 natural colors, is hypoallergenic, eight times warmer than sheep’s wool, and even waterproof. Seriously, how are these animals not magical?
