Forget the party-island clichés. Ibiza is actually one of the best Mediterranean destinations for families — if you know where to look. Here's what actually matters when you're travelling with children. This guide was made by locals for locals, but that means it holds the true treasures for tourists visiting the white isle.
May, June, September and October are the sweet spot for Ibiza: warm sea, calmer beaches, fewer crowds and better prices. July and August are hotter and busier, but still magical. Easter and October half-term family vacays are fantastic, with pleasant weather often lasting into November. Locals secretly love winter most: sunny days, empty beaches, cosy village events and long outdoor lunches without the chaos.
Cala Vadella, Cala Tarida, Cala Llonga and Es Figueral are perfect for families thanks to shallow water, sandy beaches and nearby restaurants with kids' menus. For the very best beach tips, simply open the app — including our favourite family beaches in Formentera too.
A rental car with car seats is the easiest way to explore Ibiza's hidden corners, so booking this ahead is essential. The cheapest cars are rented from the airport. Public buses connect the main towns, but do not drive super regularly. So island life is far easier with your own wheels! The Ibiza – Formentera ferry takes only 30 minutes and is part of the island hopping adventure.
On rainy days you can explore Dalt Vila, Ibiza's UNESCO-listed old town filled with castles and cobbled streets — there are cute boutiques in the lower harbour part too. You can also head to one of the indoor play centres in Ibiza Town or Santa Eulalia. There's even a small bowling and arcade spot most people never discovered. The app's home page also highlights rainy days and helps you filter on fun indoor plans.
Spanish meal times might take some adjusting: breakfast is around 11 am, lunch usually starts around 2 – 3 pm, and dinner gets lively from 9 pm. Luckily, many beach restaurants stay open all day during high season. The best part? Kids are welcome almost everywhere. Ibiza has a very family-loving culture so eating out with little ones is completely normal. In the app we highlight a selection of food spots that are extra kids friendly (kids menus, playgrounds nearby or other kids services).
Yes, date nights are absolutely possible on Ibiza. The Babysitter Finder inside the Ibiza Families app helps you discover multilingual sitters; speaking English, Spanish, German, French and more. We're not an agency, so we don't manage bookings or add commissions on top of sitter rates. What we do offer is a trusted babysitter marketplace with profiles, qualities, ID verification and parent reviews — so you can contact sitters directly and find the right match for your family.
Living on Ibiza? Our app and tools are built for everyday local family life — from schools, after-school clubs and a year-round event agenda to birthday party planning, weekly meal inspirations and our babysitter network. And if you offer a local family-friendly service yourself, we're happy to showcase it completely free — simply visit our partner page and submit your business.
Everything tourists and resident families need to know about Ibiza.
Absolutely. Beyond the famous nightlife, Ibiza is a Mediterranean island with calm beaches, family resorts, child-friendly restaurants, hiking trails and a relaxed pace of life. Families make up a large share of visitors, especially outside the party areas of Playa d'en Bossa and San Antonio. They make the seasons longer and enjoy the beautiful nature and villages the island has to offer. Resort areas like Santa Eulalia, Sant Josep, Cala Tarida, Cala Llonga and Cala Llenya in the north of the island are quiet, safe and built around families. You can also book affordable villas all over the island!
Cala Vadella, Cala Tarida, Cala Llonga, Port des Torrent and Es Figueral all have shallow water, sandy entry, beachfront restaurants and easy parking — but there are more. Find our full selection of kids-proof beaches inside the app. For older kids who can swim well, Cala Salada and Cala Comte are stunning. The app's Family Food Spots map also filters beaches with kids menus and play areas.
June and September are perfect: warm sea, fewer crowds. May, October and November are still very pleasant and warm — and the more affordable periods too. July and August are hotter (35°C+) and busier but offer the most open chic island life spots. Some places close down around November, but going as a family almost any month of the year is lovely. Easter and the October half-term are great for breaks with pleasant weather. Avoid mid-July to mid-August if you or your kids dislike heat.
Yes. Through the Ibiza Families app you can browse ID-verified babysitters who speak English, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian, French and many more languages. It's a marketplace, so we are not an intermediary — you can contact them directly and we don't charge a fee or commission per booking. The babysitters create their own profile and add info about: interaction with children, punctuality, skills, communication, and more. The communication and hiring is up to you, because you get their direct phone number to interview them and plan.
The app is free to download. It will save you loads of money and make your Ibiza life easier! For €1 per week you can unlock a premium experience that shows you all the tools. Cancel anytime. For a one-week holiday, that €1 is a lot less than the cost of one family lunch or activities that don't suit a family lifestyle.
The Birthday Directory inside the app has three sections: Planners (full birthday organisation), Party Crew (entertainers, magicians, face painters, etc.) and Activity Venues (party-friendly spots, bouncy castles, pony rides, adventure parks). All entries are local and parent-recommended.
Yes. The Schools & Activities directory in the app lists every school, international school, nursery, after-school club and sports academy across the island, including the ages served, types of education and languages of instruction. Essential for relocating families or long-stay visitors looking for summer programmes.
It depends on your preferences! Inside the app you can open the 'Top 100 Plans' and filter by categories such as: Beach, Sea & Watersports, Free & Budget plans, Indoor Entertainment, Nature & Animals, Markets & Fairs, Off Season, Eat & Play in towns, Teens, Young Kids, Luxury with kids, Art & Culture, Sports & Outdoor Adventures, Unique spots and Creativity. There will definitely be something that matches your family — you just need to filter based on your own preferences. It's easy!
Yes — the app is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. You can switch language at any time, and all content is available in both languages.
Definitely. The app was built first and foremost for families who actually live on Ibiza — but about half our users are visitors who use it on holiday. It shows weekly events, after-school activities, schools, year-round restaurants, birthday planning, regular babysitters, and daily inspiration tools that help with the routine work of family life.
Good news — yes! Ibiza Families is the first city app in a wider international rollout. Coming soon: Valencia, Amsterdam, Dublin, Berlin, Madrid and Paris. And more after that, but those you can expect this year. Each city will have the same trusted tools adapted to local family life.
